History and Features of the Department
Master of Computer Applications (MCA) is a three year programme that focuses on both theoretical and practical application of computer technology in enabling the students to be knowledgeable in programming, analytical ability, networking, computational techniques, operating systems, multimedia communications, simulation, modeling etc.

The department was established in the year 1998 with an intake of 30 students. Later, the intake was increased to 45.

The department aims at providing excellent education based on knowledge, ability and self-confidence. It identifies and develops student's potential, constantly refining the learning processes to match the functional requirements of the corporate world.

The motto of department is to "Impart real education which enables the ward to stand on its own legs".
Duration of the Course
- The MCA course shall be of three years duration extended over six months & for lateral entry it is two years (4 Semester) course.
- A candidate shall be allowed a maximum duration of Six years (12 semesters) to become eligible for the award of MCA degree, failing which he/she shall have to register once again as a fresh candidate.
Eligibility for Admission
Admission to Master of Computer Application course shall be open to the candidates who have passed the Bachelor Degree examinations with not less than 50% of the marks in the aggregate of all years of the degree examinations, provided that for admission to Master of computer Applications course the candidates shall have passed Bachelor Degree with not less than 50% of marks at least one of the following as optional or electives.

•Computer Science •Computer Programming
•Computer Applications •Business Mathematics
•Business Statics

The Students who have completed B.Sc (CS) or BCA can join the MCA course under lateral entry which is for a period of 2 years.
Mode of admission
There shall be an entrance Examination for admission to the MCA Course. A Candidate seeking admission in any of the Engineering Courses affiliated to VTU shall have to take this Examination. For Govt. seats in colleges and for VTU course, PGCET will conduct the entrance exam. Seats are allotted on the basis of ranks obtained by the candidates in PGCET examination conducted by Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) or KMAT (Karnataka Management Aptitude Test). Fee structure: Rs 35,000 Per (3 years), Rs 50,000 Per (2 years)

- Academic performance of the students is periodically monitored and reported to their parents.
- Student counseling and guidance is provided by the faculty to mould the students to move in the   right direction.
- A separate departmental library with the collection of valuable books.
Seminars & Workshops
Technical seminars & Workshops are regularly conducted by the eminent personalities from software industries.
Under Students Association 'SAMCA', weekly programs are conducted.
Training & Placement
Training is provided in aptitude tests, group discussions and interviews.
TAP classes are also arranged for personality development, communication skills development, etc.
Most students have been recruited in well-known companies like Infosys, Wipro Technologies, DSL Software, TCS, etc.
