  • The prospects for Computer Science and Engineering course are limitless what with computers becoming a part of everyday life. The program in computer science and Engineering is essentially aimed at developing a student with excellent programming and system related competencies. The student is supposed to be developing skills and knowledge both in hardware and software technologies related to computer science. Teaching is focused in system programming as well as application programming. Skills are developed in computer architecture designing, maintenance and networking.


Department Profile

         The department of Computer Science and Engineering was established in the year 1991 with anannual intake of 60 students for undergraduate program. The main focus of the department is to produce graduates & post graduates with strong fundamentals in Computer Science and Engineering domain. The course is outcome-based education with choice-based credit system to help students to achieve their goal.At present the department has a student intake of 120 for the bachelor degree and 18for the M. Tech in Computer Science and Engineering

         The Research Centre in the department is started in the year 2010 under VTU, Belagavi. The research areas of center include machine learning, cloud computing, big data analytics, wireless networks, image processing etc. There are 5 registered guides and 15 research scholars working in the research centre. Fifteen well qualified and dedicated eminent faculty members with5doctorates are serving in the department. The department has achieved two university ranks in UG.

         The department also has 5 state of art laboratories with the best in class facilities for the students to carry out their laboratory activities and project works using both proprietary software and hardware. Apart from that, the department also has a centralized computer center. All computers are connected with 200 Mbps internet to meet the browsing requirement of students. The department is frequentlymaintaining and upgrading thesoftware &hardware of the computers in the college. The department has provided separate faculty cabins and Wi-fi hotspots in each class rooms, laboratories and faculty cabins.

         

         The department has a student association CENSA (Computer Engineering Students Association) to encourage the students in technically and build the leadership quality in students. Every year a national level technical fest “NGAGE-IT” is organized for students under the banner of CENSA. The departmental newsletter “VAGVIDHEYA” whichreflects the clear picture of all sorts of activities undertaken by thedepartment is brought out every semester.

    By the end of the undergraduate programme in CSE, graduates will be able to:
  • PO1: Engineering Knowledge: To apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems
  • PO2: Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex Engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  • PO3: Design/Development of Solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate considerations for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations
  • PO4: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  • PO5: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  • PO6: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

Technical Talk on “UI & UX Fundamentals”

Department of CS&E organized a Technical Talk on “UI & UX Fundamentals”, under the banner of CENSA on 18th August, 2023. Ms. Nidhi Deva, Scrum Master at TCS, Bangalore engaged as a resource person. She delivered the information about fundamentals, uses and applications of UI & UX and concluded with the daily facing example. All the students of 4th CS&E took part in this program.

KVGCE-STUDENTS CLUB “COGNEX” Cognitive Nexus

Department of CS&E inaugurated KVGCE-STUDENTS CLUB “COGNEX” Cognitive Nexus on 14th August, 2023. This club is inaugurated by Dr.Ujwal U J, CEO KVGCE, Prof and Head of Department of CS&E. The objectives of this club are Skill Development, Project Development, Knowledge Sharing, Industry Exposure, and Social Impact. This inauguration function is followed by workshop on “Gitstart”. The students of 4th CS&E and 6th CS&E taken the responsibility of managing this workshop.

FDP on Python – A Practical Approach

CS & E department has organized two-day FDP on “Python – A Practical Approach” for faculties on 12th and 13th June 2023. Prof. Sindhu Venkatesh, assistant professor, CS & E department engaged this session as a resource person. Prof. Prajna V T and Prof. Kiran B, assistant professor, mathematics department, guided to use python packages for the conduction of mathematics lab. Around 30 members from KVGCE, KVGP, and KVGITI are attended and took the benefits of this session.

Workshop on Full Stack Development

CENSA has organized a two-day workshop on Full Stack Development on 20th and 21st January 2023 for 5th semester CS&E students. Mr. Chethan S P, MD & CEO, Tackle-D Private Limited, Bengaluru, was a resource person for this program. He has delivered the information about the current requirements of full-Stack in the software industry. The workshop continued with hands-on session in software application development using database connection, front-end application design, and client-server database.

Technical talk Tech-Talks

CENSA has organized a technical talk Tech-Talks “CYBER- TALK” for 3rd semester CS&E students in seminar hall on 12th January, 2022. Mr. Durgaprasad C M and Karthik K V from 3rd semester CS&E, delivered the talk. They delivered the information on cyber security, courses available on cyber security, soft skills, white hat skills, black hat skills and application of cyber security in real world. All the 3rd semester CS&E students are attended this session and acquired the knowledge.

CENSA has organized Coding Competition “ERROR 2.0” for 3rd and 5th semester CS&E students on 8th December 2022. The coding competition is done in different programming languages such C, C++, Java, Python. The students are allowed to choose their preferred programming language for participation in the competition. This session was handled by final year students. All the 2nd year and 3rd year students are participated in this session.

Ashwin L Shetty, Ex Engineering Manager Airbus, Australlia and Administrator, Vidyarashmi Group of Institution, Savanoor inaugurated the function. He focused the thought on “Technologists are Wonderful Creators of the Modern World”. Later he motivated the students to spread their knowledge according to their strength and ability.
